Come spiegare le tragedie ai più piccoli?
Com’è possibile far capire il significato dell’11 settembre o il dramma dell’immigrazione ad un bambino? In quale modo si può accettare la perdita di un genitore quando si è ancora acerbi per riuscire a comprendere il significato di concetti troppo complicati, come la vita e la morte?
Sono tutti interrogativi destinati a non trovare una risposta esauriente. A Bruno Guerriero va riconosciuto il merito e lo sforzo di averci tentato, offrendo al lettore un punto di vista insolito, inquietante e rassicurante al tempo stesso. Ma non bisogna commettere l’errore di ritenere che la sua opera “Fiabe e controfiabe” sia stata concepita ad uso e consumo di piccoli lettori. Le storie mirabilmente raccontate in questo libro si rivolgono anche e soprattutto ad un pubblico adulto, proprio a coloro che stanno ancora cercando una risposta e chissà se mai la troveranno.
In questo intricato lavoro si rilevano molto più adatti i bambini. Riescono ad esorcizzare meglio il dolore, almeno fino all’età adulta quando i fantasmi delle tragedie passate rincorrono i posti più remoti dell’anima e non è più possibile rifugiarsi nelle favole.
In fondo, anche noi vorremmo vivere nel villaggio dei bambini perduti e fermare l’attimo, anzi spostare addirittura le lancette all’indietro e utilizzare la macchina del tempo per ritornare all’età dell’innocenza e dell’incoscienza.
Con uno stile originale e poetico, Bruno Guerriero ci conduce in un folgorante viaggio spazio-temporale. Ci accompagna per mano in luoghi immaginari e reali. Ci restituisce intatto il fascino del Tirolo che non può essere intaccato nemmeno dalle notizie drammatiche che arrivano da Genova dove si sta svolgendo il G8.
Però anche l’aereo dei nostri sogni, quello che ci permette di atterrare direttamente a Piccadilly Circus, a Times Square o dove più ci piace, può essere dirottato ed interrompere il nostro viaggio, come quello di Luca che attenderà invano il ritorno del padre a casa e sarà costretto ad emigrare ad Edinburgo, dove potrà estirpare le sue radici ma non il suo dolore e quello della madre. Purtroppo quello li inseguirà dovunque.
Chissà se troveranno mai il loro approdo. Un po’ come il Signor Undici. Un personaggio in crisi di identità, come tutti noi in certe fasi della nostra vita, che alla fine si riappropria della sua esistenza, delle sue aspirazioni.
Allora non resta che aggrapparci ai sogni, coltivare i nostri desideri, pensare che l’occasione di riscatto sia a portata di mano. Basta crederci. Ma nel momento in cui avremmo smesso di assecondare la nostra immaginazione, avremo già perso la nostra chance. Irrimediabilmente. Ancora prima di provarci.

Si può scrivere ispirandosi ad un libro che non esiste? E’ come la musa che non ti soccorre, ma sai di trovarla dietro l’angolo dell’immaginazione. In fondo si tratta di riempire quelle pagine vuote che ritrovi da una vita nel cassetto dei sogni. Bianche ed un po’ impolverate. Oppure si può buttar giu’ guidati dal libro che leggi che svela col tempo un racconto così misterioso e originale da prenderti per la gola, come un peccaminoso divoratore di libri dimenticati.

Un giro sul vespino
Sono tornato a salire sul vespino bianco di Brunello. Come in quegli anni, quando era facile ed entusiasmante decidere di passare una notte svegli in giro per Bologna, l’estate dopo la maturità, con un professore di filosofia (ma non era di matematica?) che poteva tuttavia ancora inquietare le tue notti, tra le note di Francesco e la visione di un ippopotamo del circo di Mosca. Quegli anni quando, in quei pomeriggi luminosi di un’estate alle porte, nemmeno finivi di pranzare, a casa dopo la scuola, e via giù veloce per le scale, Brunello con il vespino già in moto, montavi e veloce in giro per una città semideserta, tra dibattiti, tavoli per la raccolta di firme, amici, chitarre, birre, radio libere e, forse, ragazze. Incredibilmente, quasi come in una delle storie fantastiche raccontate nel libro, ancora una volta, ora che l’estate volge al termine e si affaccia l’autunno, torno a salire su quel vespino a fare un giro con il vecchio amico di un tempo. E Brunello stavolta mi sorprende con un mondo interiore che fa decollare il mezzo, con la marmitta a disegnare una scia colorata, e mi fa visitare scenari fiabeschi.
Le fiabe non mi sono più consuete, oramai dimenticate da troppi anni di dedizione alla prosa scientifica. Con una passione particolare: lo studio della memoria e dei suoi disturbi. Mi viene subito in mente un bel lavoro di Daniel Schacter (psicologo tra i massimi esperti dell’argomento) che, su Nature (Schacter, D. L. & Addis, D. R., 2007. Constructive memory: The ghosts of past and future. Nature, 445, 27), prova a rispondere ad una domanda arguta: ma perché la natura non ci ha dotato di un sistema di memoria fedele ed affidabile, come un videoregistratore che riavvolgi il nastro e rivedi le scene? perché ha optato per un sistema vulnerabile che produce ricordi parziali o alterati, spesso inaffidabili? E Schacter propone che tale sistema imperfetto ha, però, il vantaggio di permettere la ricomposizione dei ricordi in una nuova configurazione, consentendo così di immaginare il futuro. E consentendo la creatività. Ed ecco che frammenti di ricordi di Bruno Guerriero si ricompongono in scenari fiabeschi a produrre una rielaborazione “remota del tempo”, dei ricordi, di emozioni antiche rimaste imbrigliate nel flusso della vita, che ora si rimettono in moto, trovano forme espressive nuove e si sublimano nella produzione letteraria. E da memorie diventano sogni, che, come spesso i sogni fanno, raccontano e propongono soluzioni, suggeriscono mete, obiettivi, sottolineano valori, esorcizzano paure.
Bruno Guerriero, da giornalista navigato, conosce bene la distinzione tra cronaca e commento, tra tondo e corsivo, e nel suo libro ricorre ad essa per segnalare la differenza, rispettivamente, tra sogni e racconti autobiografici. Azzarderei (ma qui è mia deformazione professionale) per distinguere tra gradi differenti di riconoscimento delle proprie tracce mnestiche. Se è vera l’ipotesi di Schacter, infatti, frammenti di memorie colorite emozionalmente si esprimono all’interno di narrazioni oniriche e fantastiche (tondo) oppure come più consapevoli racconti di storie vissute (corsivo). Ed ecco che il fantasma di un professore di filosofia, che si aggira tra i portici bolognesi ad inquietare una notte d’agosto, si sfuma e si confonde con animali esotici da Circo per poi cambiare scena, la fotografia assume il colore surreale del sogno ed il tondo ti consegna emozioni ed immagini di un villaggio dove il tempo scorre al contrario. Una soluzione narrativa fantastica ad esprimere emozioni più forti, ricordi più terribili, che così possono essere raccontati senza che le paure, intollerabili per un bambino, ma anche per noi adulti, della malattia, della miseria, dell’abbandono e della solitudine, senza che queste ed altre paure ti paralizzino e ti tolgano la voce. Ed il tempo, scorrendo all’incontrario, pietosamente ti diventa amico, malattie e ricordi dolorosi regrediscono e “le paure si dissolvono come nuvole grigie”. E, in un altro sogno, Luca, che ha deciso il silenzio dopo la morte del padre, riprende a parlare dopo che una lettera gli permette di riascoltare per un’ultima volta le parole del genitore. Quante volte avremmo voluto poter comunicare un’ultima volta con una persona cara condannata per sempre al silenzio. Ed il sogno ti offre la soluzione, magicamente, una lettera non ancora consegnata che appare come un dono, un’epifania, appunto. E Luca abbandona il voto del silenzio e la sua vita si rimette in moto.
Ma i sogni veicolano anche desideri. E le memorie possono, con Schacter, essere ricomposte ad immaginare il futuro. Ed ecco che il vespino plana dolcemente e sfreccia veloce tra i portici di Bologna, ancora una volta, una notte di agosto di un anno che verrà, e parcheggia davanti ad un’osteria di fuori porta, incredibilmente ancora aperta come un tempo, e finalmente incontriamo Francesco, invano cercato quell’estate oramai lontana, e l’ippopotamo si sdraia ed il professore di filosofia ora ti sorride benevolo. Ma non era di matematica?
